Since 1998, I have been helping home buyers and sellers with their real estate transactions in the Northstar community of Lake Tahoe. While there are many neighborhoods and ski resorts in the surrounding mountains, none can compare to the charm and elegance of the upscale communities located at Northstar California.
Northstar California is a premier, year-round family resort located in the mountains of Lake Tahoe. Guests and residents enjoy skiing and snowboarding in the winter or mountain biking and hiking in the summer. Guests can enjoy a ski in/ski out experience with a spa, set in a truly world class resort with outstanding views. These 23 residences offer two, three and four bedroom dwellings.
Mountainside at Northstar includes luxurious custom homes, homesites and townhomes, located in Northstar’s newest community, and at the center of the resort. The community clubhouse has a year round pool, sport court, fitness center and even a living room. Guests can enjoy easy access to the Ritz Carlton, Northstar Village Stellar Collection and Schaffer’s Camp. These three and four bedroom residences have garages and showcase contemporary designs.
M25 is a new newer development of 25 ski in and ski out properties. Each are located in a private, gated community, and offer amazing views from three and four bedroom residences with garages. Located on the Home Run skiway, the neighborhood also offers townhomes.
The main area of Northstar is composed of many neighborhoods that include an array of custom homes, Village condos, townhomes and homesites. Homeowners enjoy close proximity to golf and the many shops and restaurants of Northstar Village. The summer offers swimming, mountain biking, tennis and golf.
Adjacent to Northstar is Martis Camp, a private and gated community that offers many homesites, custom homes and cabins. The golf course was designed by Tom Fazio and the Camp Lodge is the perfect place for dining, and spa. These luxury homes are only matched by the outstanding amenities found at Martis Camp such as the Family Barn, with shows, bowling, basketball, dining and an art studio. This upscale community is very popular because it offers entertainment for the entire family.
Lahontan is located next to Martis Camp. One of Lake Tahoe’s most prestigious communities, Lahontan is best known for it’s championship golf course designed by Tom Weiskopf. The stunning and unique architecture of each of the many homes in the area make these properties highly sought after. The Lodge has a restaurant and full service golf shop with a spa and fitness center. Homeowners enjoy year-round activities like swimming, tennis, and sand volleyball.
The Northstar resort encompasses 8,000 acres with 3,200 acres as part of their ski area. The approval of the Northstar Master Plan, identifies new communities and improvements that will alleviate ski traffic, while extending the ski terrain another 300 acres, with six new lifts.
The Northstar Masterplan will guide the development of this area over the next 20 years. The plan includes trail maintenance, five ski bridges, the relocation of the existing cross-country ski center and two new campsite areas.
The plan also includes seven new lifts: a gondola, two detachable chairlifts, one surface tow and three additional fixed-grip chairs. Two of those lifts would have mid-stations and three will serve an exciting 550-acre expansion called Sawtooth Ridge.
Also included in the plan is the Castle Peak Gondola. This six-passenger gondola to Northstar Village is not for ski access, but will reduce traffic on Northstar Drive by diverting more vehicles to the offsite Castle Peak parking lots.
The following new lifts are included in the Northstar Masterplan:
Lift C: A fixed-grip or detachable chairlift east of the existing Vista Express. This lift will serve three new intermediate trails above Sawmill Lake.
Lift J (Lookout Mountain Access): A long new detachable quad or six-place chairlift starting near the bottom station of the Highlands pulse gondola and ending near the Lookout Vista surface lift. This lift will have a mid-load station and will serve new trails to the north of the Tahoe Zephyr Express pod.
Lift V: A bottom drive fixed-grip lift starting near the Backside Express/Promised Land Express. It will lead into the new Sawtooth Ridge expansion area.
Lift W: A second fixed-grip chairlift serving Sawtooth Ridge. No trails will be cut in this pod; it will be dedicated to serving natural tree skiing.
Lift Z: Surface tow similar to Lookout Vista providing access to “backcountry-style” terrain beyond lifts V and W.
Lift Q: A second lift on Lookout Mountain to the west of the Martis Camp Express. This lift will be fixed-grip and top drive.
High Speed Gondola: will transport skiers from Northstar Village to Castle Peak, reducing crowded parking areas and traffic congestion. New service lodges and facilities will also improve the overall enjoyment for skiers.
